May 5th NAZCA

NAZCA (or Nasca)

The most horrifying ride of my life is the 9 hr bus journey from Arequipa to Nazca !

We left at 4pm from Hotel La Casa del Abuela (Arequipa).

The journey was a roller coaster ride ! passing desert land, looking like "Petra", many and enormous sand dunes for miles and miles..... Seems like endless horror ride...

The bus driver was going like more than 200mph !!!! rounding corners even at the same speed !!!

The almost 10hr ride was terrifying ! Finally reached Nazca town at 2am !!! And so thankful to see the Inkawasitravels' agent waiting faithfully at the gate...even at that hour but more importantly we arrived in one piece !

We were taken to a surprisingly very luxurious looking hotel or an oasis in this desert plains..., HOTEL MAJORO, Nazca.

some of the Hotel's collectibles and antiques...

Girls , dont jump in ! its a mirage..

NAZCA LINES

The NASCA LINES are located in the extremely dry Nasca Desert, situated at the high plateau of the pampa plains in southern Peru. Etched on the surface of the desert pampa plain are various figures & designs made of straight lines, geometric shapes most clearly visible from the air .

The Nasca plain is unique in its ability to preserve the markings upon it due to the combination of reasons - the climate (dry with only 20 minutes of rain per year !!) and secondly the stony ground which minimises the effects of the wind.

the alien

One ponders on the engima of the Nasca Lines....It stretches across the Nasca Plains like a giant map or blueprint left by ancient astronauts...a myth or truth !

No one has proof who built them or why ! Since their discovery, it has inspired many fantastic explanations from ancient Gods, a landing strip for the Aliens or even a celestial calendar created by the Nasca civilisation probably used for rituals related to astronomy ..... and therefore, its creation to be around 200BC and 600AD.

MAY 6th - BALLESTAS ISLAND

By 5pm, we were driven in a mini van to Pisco town (3hr drive). Arrive in Pisco to a HOTEL POSADA. ...- free time

Our hotel sits right in the earthquake zone ! In fact the Hotel was standing by itself, all surrounding buildings have collapsed in the 2005 earthquake.

At night, we had our Cusquena beer and Pisco Sour drinks and chat up a couple we call " the Clintons" and some San Diego beach boys on their way to Machu Picchu ! Some of the tourists we meet travel on the opposite route ie covering south to west then to Machu Picchu last in their itinerary.

Weird happenings in the night.... heard gunshots etc etc..till today we cant explain what we heard ....

next morning the bus left for Paracas where we board the speed boat for the Ballestas Islands popular for its sea lions, penguins and birds....

hey, you blocking my sun ! Al Capone escapes from the paparazzi, to his island resort..

..on Ballestas Island

Later in afternoon, we waited at the jetty house for our 2.30pm bus Cruz del Sur for LIMA.
