the journey begins.....
Machu Picchu, (Quechua or "old mountain") Peru is the ultimate destination and the highlight of our journey...
Often referred to as "The Lost City of the Incas", it is situated at 2,400m on a mountain ridge overlooking the Urubamba Valley in Peru,built around 1450 but abandoned with the Spanish conquest of the Inca empire...Years later the site was brought to world attention in 1911 by Mr Hiram Bingham, American Historian. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 and is also one of the New Wonders of the World ....

On April 20th 2008, five of us set out to conquer the mountains, embrace the fascinating nature around, to pull thru' the "moh tak teng" freezing cold nights at camp sites, to withstand the extreme high UV rays at above 3,000 m.a.s.l., and to endure the never-ending Inka trails ........and much more...and yes oops ! .. to survive each other !
After 4 days on the Inka Trail , the breath-taking view of the citadel from Inti Punku ( "Sun Gate" ) was simply awesome.
The magnificent and spectacular view of the " kingdom above the clouds " is beyond words to describe the overwhelming feelings that came over us. ......
In mystical Peru, you are completely immersed within the nurturing energies of Pachamama, Mother Earth !

This is cool. There is no better way to relive your trip and revisit those happy times you shared with your travel buddies but to write about them. The ultimate mode of preserving all these treasured memories is by taking pictures which capture the mood and the sentiment of both the traveler and his or her subject. Looking forward to seeing more of your wonderful pictures posted….
Hi Pat, I wish i was much younger and gather my biking buddies to this amazing and awesome adventure.This is a once in a lifetime experience where money cannot buy.I have read and watch documentaries on Machu Picchu whenever I come across them. It is a mystery how the structures are built there. Possibly by aliens from outer space ( correct me if I am wrong).My hats off to all of you ladies, possibly the first from Malaysia to climb up Machu Picchu . Syabas, Congrats and Malaysia Boleh !!! Eagerly waiting for your continuation of your write up of this fantastic adventure...(PS You want some Inka music, I have a cd from the World Music Festival last year,The Inka Makras). Cheers !

What an amazing trail!Nothing worth doing is ever easy but when you set your heart to it and give it so much enthusiasim and joy, it is returned a thousand folds. It is inspring to read your stories so I say, journey on girl! What's next?
Here's for those people who say "I wish to be there..." All I can say is break those self imposed barriers cos the rewards reaped are incredible, the snow capped mountains, the trickling of fresh water stream, the eating of wild berries, capturing photos of humming birds and wild orchids. What more can one ask??
But first let me congratulate Pat & Phaik Yean for their tenacity in their research and internet bookings for without them this trip would not have materalised.
More significant for me is that; this trip is an inaugural, long overdued expedition for Pat & me. We spoke of travelling together back in 1977 after leaving high school!!!and we’ve finally made it. Of all places to one of the most spiritual location in the world, awesome eh?
Where to next as Carol asked? Hmm..Kota Kinabalu or Everest but first must recharge Oreo (private joke)

Wow!! Pat im blown away by the massive improvement in your blog skills. Just looking at those photos brings back memories like they happened yesterday. Not to mention the captions and the cartoons, they're sooo hilarious. Looks like we had a ball, amidst the 'other problem' that were brewing amongst the girls (who cares about that eh?).
Excellent selection and illustration of photos which couldn't have been done better. Brings out the mood/vibe and the precise ambience of Peru to the reader. The feeling of Peru in front of you; at your doorstep and right in your face even when they havent been. THAT'S MY GAL...love you heaps
